Brynmill, with its mix of terraced houses, has long been the main student area for Swansea. Apart from students, it is mainly a middle class family area, chosen for its local schools and its convenience for the city centre and for the university. Depending on which part of Brynmill you choose, the walk to the university takes 10 to 15 minutes and the city is about 20 minutes away on foot. Several bus routes pass through the area.
Composed mainly of Victorian and Edwardian housing, the area is hilly, but it includes good local shopping, such as the shops of Bryn y Mor road. The Guildhall, St Helens Rugby and Cricket Ground, are important local features, there are local churches and two parks in the area. There is no shortage of cafes, bars and restaurants serving everything from fast food to fine eating.
The area is bounded by Brynmill and Singleton Parks to the West, the beach and Swansea Bay to the South, by the residential area of Uplands to the North and by routes into the City to the East.
